Combining Art and Technology to Boost Creativity

Delivering cost effective, precise, and photorealistic 3D virtual models of building and landscaping projects

Why VALDIS

VALDIS AG provides services in the field of 3D visualization and virtualization with current emphasis on architecture and building information modeling (BIM). Notably, VALDIS develops and promotes the use of its programming tool, paramX that simplifies the construction of complex 3D architectural and landscaping models by generating them from a suite of simple and well organized programs. The main benefit of this approach when compared to more standard « mouse-and-click » methods to 3D model development is the ease with which the model can be parametrized and therefore re-used and modified by changing just a few parameters in the programs.

A Word from VALDIS Founder: Jean H. Heegaard

Who am I?

  • Ph.D. in Physics from the EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) in the area of computational biomechanics (3D modeling of the human musculo-skeletal system)
  • Faculty position during 8 years in the School of Engineering at Stanford University in the heart of Silicon Valley
  • Co-Founder of the data protection start-up OSYTOS in Rennes, Britany, France and CEO for 5 years
  • Founder of the start-up VALDIS in Lausanne, Switzerland, in the area of 3D modeling for architecture and landscaping

How I got here

During my Ph.D. research on the human knee joint at the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands, I came accross the problem of reconstructing 3D accurate geometrical models of the joint surfaces using stereo-photogrammetry. Almost 30 years later, I was confronted to the problem of building 3D models for an architectural project and realized that much of the progress had gone into the user interface of 3D CAD programs.

Hardware allowing, today's 3D models are way more complex than they were a few decades ago. Better structuring and hierarchisation of the models is therefore needed to build parametric 3D models.
